Project Inputs

Open the Inputs tab of a project to view or edit data privacy settings, pinned notes, soil pit depths, or required observations. The inputs tab is the first tab visible when you open a project.

Data Privacy

Project managers can set a project’s data privacy. All sites in a project inherit the project’s privacy settings.

Pinned Note

Project managers can set a pinned note. All sites that belong to a project will display the pinned note on the “Notes” tab.

Setting soil pit depths in projects

Sites that belong to projects inherit their soil pit depth settings from the project. The following options are available:

Depth Presets

USDA NRCS

By default soil pit depths use the NRCS/GSP preset. If you don’t know how to determine soil horizons, keep this setting.

Custom

Select this option to define custom depths for the project’s sites.

Setting Custom Depths

Tap the + Add Depth button to add a depth. Depths are determined by measuring down in the pit from the surface, with 0 cm/in being the surface.

Each depth consists of an optional label and a top and bottom depth. The “From” field refers to the top of the layer (the smaller number), and “To” refers to the bottom of the layer (the larger number).

None specified

A project manager may select this option to allow data collectors to gather information at self-defined depths.

Observation requirements

A project manager can define which observations are required for a given project. By default, projects require observations that are relevant for the Soil ID Algorithm: slope steepness and shape, soil cracks, soil texture class, rock fragment volume, and soil color.

To change requirements, go to the Observation Requirements section, toggle observations off and on, and tap the Save button.
